On January 15, 2016 Asbury Park Middle School students, under the supervision of social studies teachers Mr. Wronko and Mr. Schneider, did a Martin Luther King Jr. presentation for the students in Ghana. The presentation began with music teacher Ms. Friedman and her chorus singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The first verse to this wonderful song goes:

Lift every voice and sing, till earth and Heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of liberty; Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won.
Song by James Weldon Johnson

After the chorus sang “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” Makayla Serrano sang a verse from “We Shall Overcome.” Once Ms. Friedman and her students finished the opening to the presentation, Mr. Wronko’s students, Perfecto Kendle, Deicie Vasquez, Ali Salahedin, Christlie Lavarin, Daniele Delgado, and Marc Kenley St. Surin presented power points on the life of Martin Luther King Jr. Each power point went into Martin Luther King Jr.’s childhood, influences, his “I Have A Dream” speech, death, and ongoing influence in American society. After the students were done with their presentations, the students from Ghana asked numerous questions. Some of their questions dealt with the Montgomery bus boycott, Martin Luther King Jr.’s influences, and racism throughout the south during the Civil Rights Movement.

This session was dedicated to the remembrance of DR. KING.
